This month’s education series dives into the nuclear energy cycle and some of its effects on the environment and local communities. The race to a carbon zero future has placed nuclear power once again into the lime light. Touted as a “zero carbon” energy source it has been gaining some publicity as a possible alternative to the world’s fossil fuel addiction. While nuclear power is “free” of carbon pollution, it’s waste and byproducts have to the potential to toxify and alter ecosystems for millennia.
