The Oh Mural -
We all love to experience inspiration of the soul. The moment when any of us let our guard down long enough to be genuine and express ourselves regardless of what others might think – those are the moments when the soul is released and we are free. It is so beautiful to experience such moments. Chris Haberman is one of those wonderful people who allows himself to be genuine with others and to share life fully. Chris as a person is pure gold. He is real and open and kind and adored by many. Chris as an artist is a gift to us all. He captures layers upon layers of who we are – our history – our personal stories – and the stories that are beneath the surface that we are afraid to tell – he captures those stories as well. The complexity of humanity is hard to capture in art but I feel that Portland’s very talented artist Chris Haberman has the gift of capturing the dark and the light together. I contacted Chris after a few years of following his art. I was so inspired by the mural he did at Francis Restaurant on NE Alberta. I would go and sit in the courtyard and find something new in the mural each time. His paintings are similarly complex in the layering of the story and unfolding of the meaning. He allows his view of the world to come through in his honest expression in paint and mixed media. I asked if he would be interested in sharing the story of Oh in a mural with a Portland framework. He and I began a journey of discovery that resulted in the most beautiful mural I have seen. It is captivating and full of stories in the many layers of faces, images and phrases. Come to the office and see it anytime – sit in the lobby and enjoy some coffee and take it all in. This video shows the process of Chris painting but the real experience can only be had in person.
Thank you Chris for blessing us with your beautiful artwork and your wonderful spirit. We are bound together.
